Noonan rallies from 15th, tightens title chase

WAUSEON, Ohio (Aug. 9) — Casey Noonan of Sylvania, Ohio, rallied from his 15th starting spot at Oakshade Raceway for his third victory of the year at the 3/8-mile oval. Noonan's victory kept him in the thick of the chase for the $10,000 weekly points title as seven drivers are still in contention with two events remaining.
Ronnie Perrine Jr. of Lima, Ohio, started on the pole and was in command in the early going while Curtis Roberts of Coleman, Mich., who started alongside Perrine, departed before the 10-lap mark. Canadian driver Chris Ross inherited second place and battled with Tyler Boggs of Warsaw, Ind., through the race's middle stages.
Further back, Noonan was working his way toward the front. He moved past Ross and Boggs, then battled side-by-side with Perrine before taking the lead on lap 17. Perrine stayed with the leader the rest of the way, but he couldn't regain the point. Boggs finished third followed by Ross and Zack Olger of St. Johns, Mich.
Oakshade Late Model points leader Rody Schroyer of Toledo, Ohio, was sixth. With two events remaining, Schroyer has 1,022 points to lead Dusty Moore of Swanton, Ohio (998), Noonan (971), Olger (941) and Kevin Reeve of Hanover, Mich. (904).
