Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay, Ontario, started outside the front row at Red River Co-op Speedway and went on to win the richest race in the history of the Northern LateModel Racing Association. Cryderman pocketed $5,000 in U.S. funds for the 40-lap victory in an event that drew 35 Late Models.
Lance Matthees of Winona, Minn., was second ahead of Ricky Weiss and polesitter Tom Corcoran. Steve Laursen started sixth and rounded out the top five.
Matt Aukland's 14th-place finish was good enough to wrap up the NLRA championship by 10 points over Scott Greer, who finished 19th.
Matthees, Jeff Provinzino, Mike Balcaen and WISSOTA points leader Zach Johnson won heat races. Brent Larson and Mike Nutzmann won consolation races. Troy Olson, Dale Skytland, Dave Tyrchniewicz and Cory Wheeler started with provisional starting spots. Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup were Gord Hockevich, Dustin Hapka and Ryan Corbett.
