Topless 100 squeezed into one night of racing
From staff reports
LOCUST GROVE, Ark. (Aug. 16) — Wet grounds at Batesville Motor Speedway have forced officials to squeeze the weekend's entire program for the 16th annual Comp Cams Topless 100 into Saturday night, the track announced Saturday morning. Gates will open at 3 p.m. Saturday with racing scheduled for 8 at the 3/8-mile oval. Saturday's Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series action will include time trials, heat races, consolations and the feature event along with races for the modified division.
Because of the shortened program, a reduced purse will see the winner receive $25,000 instead of the originally planned $40,000, said race promoter Mooney Starr.
After rain washed out Friday's action, officials initially announced plans to run daytime and nighttime racing sessions on Saturday, but those plans were scrubbed on Saturday morning.
The richest Dirt Late Model race in Arkansas is being sanctioned for the first time. Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., won last year's event and hometown driver Billy Moyer is the event's only four-time winner.
