Myers denies Fetters first Thunder Valley victory
From track reports
CENTRAL CITY, Pa. (Aug. 16) — Greg Fetters of Everett, Pa., got within a lap of winning his first career Late Model feature at Thunder Valley Raceway, but D.J. Myers of Greencastle, Pa., stole away with the checkered flag. Myers, who started seventh, made a last-lap pass to overtake the race-long leader at the half-mile oval for his sixth career TVR.
Fetters shot by polesitter Darrell Dick at the outset while Myers quickly moved up to challenge Doug Glessner and Scott Rhodes in the top five. With the bottom lane clogged, Myers moved around the outside of Rhodes on the 10th lap, then duplicated the move on Glessner one lap later. He chased down Dick and grabbed second on lap 16.
Fetters had built a comfortable lead, but Myers caught up by the 20th lap. After that, the leaders jostled with Myers edging ahead to lead the final lap. Fetters was second for his best career finish at the track while Dick, Rhodes and Glessner rounded out the top five.
Late Model points leader Steve Everhart spun early and was the second retiree. That allowed Rhodes to cut into Everhart's lead as Rhodes aims for his seventh consecutive track championship.
