Schroyer wins 3-wide Oakshade duel at line
From track reports
WAUSEON, Ohio (Aug. 30) — Rody Schroyer wrapped up Oakshade Raceway's 2008 Late Model championship on Aug. 23 despite going winless. The Toledo, Ohio, driver changed that a week later for his first victory of the season, and it was a big one.
Rallying from the eighth row after winning a consolation race, Schroyer earned $2,000 for a thrilling Sunoco American Late Model Series victory at Oakshade Raceway. Schroyer notched his second career series victory and first since winning at Oakshade last year with ALMS.
ALMS points leader Brian Ruhlman of Clarklake, Mich., took control midway through the 30-lapper and built a big lead before the 16th-starting Schroyer got up to second and tracked him down in the final laps. With Rusty Seaver of Stanton, Mich., also charging, the final lap was a wild one.
Ruhlman, Schroyer and Seaver battled three abreast as they came upon traffic heading for the checkered flag. Schroyer went low, Ruhlman found room up high and Seaver was in the middle. Schroyer narrowly edged Ruhlman at the line while Seaver was a close third. Michigan drivers Rusty Schlenk of Jackson and Curtis Roberts of Coleman rounded out the top five. Polesitter Herb Reich of Ann Arbor, Mich., finished 11th after spinning early while running second in the caution-plagued event. Early leader Kevin Reeve spun out of the lead on lap 13 and ended up 18th.
