Davenport grabs second Clash victory at Wythe

RURAL RETREAT, Va. (Sept. 13) — Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., nabbed his second Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series victory of the season at Wythe Raceway, earning $5,000 for leading all 50 laps. Davenport flashed across the finish line ahead of Ricky Weeks of Rutherfordton, N.C., who rebounded with a runner-up finish in his chase for his fifth consecutive series title.
Shon Flanary of Mount Carmel, Tenn., finished third followed by Brandon Kinzer of Allen, Ky., and Jimmy McCormick of Dobson, N.C. Dennis Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., who entered the event leading the Countdown to the Cup playoff-style points, struggled to a 16th-place finish after having problems with a broken axle tube. Weeks went ahead of Franklin in the points chase with three events remaining.
Notes: Davenport drives a Clements-powered Barry Wright Race Car sponsored by Beaver Bail Bonds, Youngblood Concrete and PBM Performance . ... The most serious accident of the night came on the 13th lap when the cars of Furman Parton, Jeff Smith and Scott Neighbors collided in turn two. Parton and Smith were through for the night. ... Tim Allen, who started 15th, ran as high as third before engine problems knocked him out on lap 41. ... Shanon Buckingham was scheduled to start on the front row but was relegated to the tail because a crew member brought a tool onto the track before the race. ... Ricky Weeks leads the series with 3,555 points followed by Dennis Franklin (3,540), Doug Sanders (3,456) and Jeff Smith (3443). ... Series competitors return to action Sept. 19-20 with events at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C., and Lancaster (S.C.) Motor Speedway.
