Valone wins ODLM finale as Oakes gets title

Ontario Dirt Late ModelsBRIGHTON, Ontario (Sept. 20) — Chad Valone of Warren, Pa., raced to his first victory on the Canadian Ontario Dirt Late Models circuit, earning $2,500 for winning the Justin Turner Memorial at Brighton Speedway. Chris Ross of Wallaceburg, Ontario, finished second in the richest-ever ODLM event while Greg Oakes of Franklinville, N.Y., finished third and wrapped up the series championship on the four-race tour. Oakes trailed points leader Doug Ricotta of Warsaw, N.Y., by eight points entering the race, but Ricotta's early crash in the 25-lapper knocked him out of title contention. | Slideshow
Notes: The event was sponsored by Hino Trucks of Kingston and Gatineau. ... Greg Oakes is the fourth series champion in six years of ODLM racing; he finished no worse than fifth in each of the four series events. ... Greg Oakes had 383 points followed by Chris Ross (378), Adam Ferri (369) and Doug Ricotta (358). ... Only six cars finished on the lead lap in the main event. ... The race honored the son of driver Paul Turner, a former racer who died tragically in 2007. ... The ODLM banquet is scheduled for Dec. 6 at St. Mary's Hall in Blenheim, Ontario. Tickets are $25.
