DirtonDirt.com correspondentGLENCOE, Ala. (Oct. 2) — Tony Morris of Murfreesboro, Tenn., slipped under Jake Knowles of Tyrone, Ga., with about 12 laps remaining at Green Valley Speedway and went on to a $3,000 victory in the unsanctioned Road to Dega 40. Knowles settled for his second straight runner-up finish in Alabama; he was also second five days earlier at East Alabama Motor Speedway's Alabama State Championship event.
"I wanted Jake to know I was there, so I kept after him and sure enough I was able to slide underneath him in turn four," Morris said. Behind Knowles was Wendell Wallace of Batesville, Ark., followed by Tim Busha of Boaz, Ala., and James Cline of Oxford, Ala. Tail-starting Ronnie Johnson of Chattannoga, Tenn., was seventh.
