Morrow takes Talladega, first O'Reilly SAS victory
From series reports
EASTABOGA, Ala. (Oct. 4) — Polesitter Todd Morrow of Old Fort, Tenn., led all the way at Talladega Short Track for his first career victory on the O'Reilly Southern All Star Dirt Racing Series. Morrow repelled challenges from Brandon Kinzer, Tim Busha and finally Terry Smith for the $5,000 victory at the third-mile oval across the highway from the NASCAR superspeedway.
Smith, of Anniston, Ala., tried to work the low groove late in the race, but after showing his car's nose to Morrow, the leader edged down and held on the rest of the way. The mid-pack starting Smith finished second followed by Randy Weaver of Crossville, Tenn., who started eighth. Danny Peoples of Margaret, Ala., rallied to finish fourth and Busha, of Boaz, Ala., started fourth and finished fifth. Brandon Kinzer of Allen, Ky., started outside the front row but ended up eighth.
Notes: O'Reilly SAS points leader Ivedent Lloyd Jr. was sixth after starting inside the second row. ... Jamie Perry of Ringgold, Tenn., slid off turn four in hot laps in a potentially scary accident, but his car wasn't damaged and he was able to continue on to time trials. ... Among drivers failing to make the feature lineup: Tim Roszell, Red Farmer, Justin McRee, Dion Deason and Ross Martin. ... Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., who picked up $2,000 for winning the previous night's unsanctioned feature, was 13th. ... The Southern All Stars have two more events to wrap up the season: Nov. 9 at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C., for the $10,000-to-win Blue-Gray 100, and Nov. 15 at Cleveland (Tenn.) Speedway for the $5,000-to-win Gobbler 75.
