Anderson takes Enid as Boen gets NCRA title

O'Reilly NCRAENID, Okla. (Oct. 26) — Polesitter John Anderson of Omaha, Neb., led all 25 laps at the 43rd annual Enid Winter Nationals while Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colo., wrapped up his fourth consecutive championship on the O'Reilly National Championship Racing Association at Enid Speedway. Anderson earned $2,500 for his third O'Reilly NCRA of the season and a repeat of his 2007 October victory at Enid.
"The track was perfect for a daytime show," Anderson said. "We basically used the same setup as we did last year and it worked."
Boen, who entered the event five points ahead of 2002 champion Kyle Berck of Marquette, Neb., finished third in the feature event to capture another title while Berck was fourth. Al Purkey of Coffeyville, Kan., finished a half-straightaway behind in second in the 2008 NCRA finale while Jimmy Seagraves of Valley Center, Kan., was fifth.

The race was slowed by two caution periods, the first when Delbert Smith stopped in turn four and the second on the 15th lap when Steve Foster of Abilene, Kan., stopped on the frontstretch with a flat tire. ... Foster announced prior to the event that he was retiring from racing. ... Kyle Berck fell short of a series title, but he'll have his hands full soon. His wife Stacy is due with their first child soon. "We will be back next year though," Berck said. "Somebody's got to beat that guy." ... Shawn Harker of Plattsmouth, Neb., who ran third early at Enid before finishing 14th, clinched the 2008 NCRA Rookie of the Year honors over Wylan Petrie.
