Final Cleveland weekend postponed to Nov. 21-22
From track reports
CLEVELAND, Tenn. (Nov. 13) — Weather and weather-related problems have forced Cleveland Speedway to postpone Nov. 14-15's fourth Annual Joe Lee Johnson Memorial Weekend scheduled for a week. The $2,700-to-win Joe Lee Johnson Memorial has been rescheduled for Nov. 21 and the $5,000-to-win Gobbler, the final race on the O'Reilly Southern All Star Series event, has been rescheduled for Nov. 22.
A rainy forecast and dropping temperatures forced the postponement, along with problems in the pit area because of a City of Cleveland sewage project.
"Right now there is a 75-yard ditch that is 40-feet wide and 30-feet deep through the outside pit area with all the dirt in piles," track promoter Monty Morrow said. "The city is doing everything they can, but the rain has slowed things down and even if they got finished in time it would be a mess."
The Nov. 21-22 weekend will still carry a $3,300 bonus from Car Smart Used Cars of Cleveland if a Super Late Model driver can sweep both features, making the weekend worth a possible $11,000.
Ivedent Lloyd Jr. of Ocala, Fla., is on the verge of locking up his second consecutive O'Reilly SAS championship. Lloyd needs only to attempt to qualify on Nov. 22 to secure the crown.
Besides Super Late Models, Limited and Crate Late Models will be in action along with other divisions. The Limited-Crate feature pays $2,500 to the winner and if drivers winning lower divisions are pre-entered they'll earn $1,000.
On Nov. 21, the pits will open at 3 p.m., grandstands at 4 and the drivers' meeting at 6. Adult grandstand admission is $15 with kids 6-11 $3 and under 6 are free; pit passes are $25. On Nov. 22, the pits will open at 1 p.m., grandstands at 4 and the drivers' meeting will be at 6. Adult grandstand admission is $20 with kids 6-11 $3 and under 6 are free; pit passes are $30.
