Knowles, Smith get $2,500 victories at Green Valley

GLENCOE, Ala. (Nov. 22-23) — Georgia drivers Tony Knowles of Tyrone and Clint Smith of Senoia raced to unsanctioned victories worth $2,500 apiece on the season-ending weekend at Green Valley Speedway. Knowles won Saturday's feature from the pole position while Smith started outside the front row and raced to victory in Sunday's feature. | Slideshow
Sunday's race was marred by Byron Michael's hard turn-three accident, a lap-19 wreck that forced an early ending to the scheduled 30-lapper. Michael, the two-time and reigning Southern Regional Racing Series champion, was hospitalized following the accident but apparently suffered no major injures, according to SRRS director of competition John Mosier.

Smith was using a brace on his right wrist, which had a cast on it several weeks since a Sept. 6 accident at Ohio's Eldora Speedway. ... Chris Jones flipped in a Saturday consolation race accident; he wasn't seriously injured. ... David Gentry won Saturday's Crate feature and Jason Hiett won Sunday's Crate feature. ... Dingus Griffin lowered his own 2-year-old track record in Sunday's qualifying with a 13.904-second lap. He finished eighth in the main event.
