Shaver wins at Skyline for $5,000 MACS victory
From series reports
STEWART, Ohio (Sept. 22) — Steve Shaver of Vienna, W.Va., led all the way in the Harvest 50 at Skyline Speedway for his first Mid-Atlantic Championship Series victory of the season. Shaver outran Dave Hess Jr. of Waterford, Pa., Josh McGuire of Grayson, Ky., along with former MACS champions Mike Balzano of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Rob Blair of Titusville, Pa., for a victory worth $5,000.
Steve Lucas and Shaver started on the front row with Shaver quickly jumping into the lead as the field barreled into turn one. The third-starting Hess quickly took second as Lucas pushed up the track on the first lap.
Shaver led the first three circuits followed by Hess, Lucas and Balzano before the race's only caution appeared when Chris Garnes and Paul Wilmoth, Jr. got together in turn three.
Shaver took off on the restart and stayed in control while McGuire, who started 17th and pitted on the third lap with a flat tire, worked his way to the front.
Shaver glided through lapped traffic with Hess glued to his rear deck. Hess pressured Shaver more and more as the laps continued to click by while McGuire continued knifing through the field. McGuire picked off three cars on the 24th lap as he overtook Lucas, Jason Montgomery and Jeff Burdette in a single corner.
Hess continued to dog Shaver and event nosed ahead amid traffic at one point, but Shaver was back out front at the start-finish line. Shaver held on to wrap up his second career MACS victory.
