Gentry's dramatic move leads to Duck River victory
WHEEL, Tenn. (April 4) — Former series champion David Gentry of Lewisburg, Tenn., made a dazzling third-to-first move on the backstretch with fewer than five laps remaining to grab a $3,000 Southern Regional Racing Series victory at Duck River Speedway. The home-track driver used a slingshot move exiting turn two, grabbing second from Tony Morris and then getting under race-long leader Josh Putnam for a lead he'd never give up.
The polesitting Putman of Killen, Ala., settled for second while Hall of Famer Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, Tenn., dropped Crossville, Tenn.'s Morris back to fourth in the closing laps. Jay Brinkley of Shelbyville, Tenn., rounded out the top five. Gentry, the 2006 SRRS champion, scored his fourth career series victory and first since 2006.
