Pennington claims lead late for Penton victory
PENTON, Ala. (April 17) — Travis Pennington took the lead from race-long leader Dana Eiland on Friday with seven laps remaining to grab $3,000 and a United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series victory at Penton Raceway.
Eiland, of Phenix City, Ala., led the first 33 laps, but a flat tire forced him pitside, and handed the lead to Pennington. The Winston, Ga. driver then held off Terrane Nowell over the final seven laps for the victory. Jacksonville, Fla.'s Jason Fitzgerald, who was forced to the back of the pack after a lap-two altercation, rallied for third.
UDLMCS points leader Mark Whitener sat out the night's action due to a blown motor in hot laps.
