DirtonDirt.com correspondentCHESTER, S.C. (Sept. 28) — Johnny Pursley of Clover, S.C., set fast time at I-77 Speedway and led every lap of the track's Shrine Race, but he didn't earn any money. That's because, as is the Pursley family custom, he and his father John, the runner-up in the unsanctioned event for Limited Late Models, donated their winnings back to the Shriners who host the regular events at Carolina tracks. The winner's purse was $5,000. | Slideshow
The younger Pursley dominated the race over his father while Dennis "Rambo" Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., and Ron Parker of Shelby, N.C., rounded out the top five.
The elder Pursley also donated his purse to the Shriners after winning the crate Late Model feature.
