Korte outruns Moyer for Tri-Track victory at I-55
PEVELY, Mo. (May 30) — Turning back traveling challengers, I-55 Raceway Late Model points leader Randy Korte of Highland, Ill., won the 40-lap Tri-Track Challenge event from the pole position for a $5,000 victory on the Northern Allstars Late Model Series. The 44-year-old Korte notched his fourth Late Model victory overall at I-55 and the richest of the season. | Slideshow
Fifth-starting Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., the night's fastest qualifier among 40 cars, finished second with eighth-starting Bill Frye of Greenbrier, Ark., in third at the quarter-mile oval just south of St. Louis. Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., who started inside the fifth row, finished fourth and 19th-starting Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., rounded out the top five finishers in the second of three Tri-Track Challenge events the last weekend in May. Frank Heckenast Jr. of Orland Park, Ill., started outside the front row but faded to finish ninth.

The Tri-Track Challenge wraps up Sunday at Shepp's Speedway in Alexander, Ill. If Moyer, who won Friday's weekend opener at Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway, or Korte can win at Shepp's, they're in line for a $5,000 bonus going to any driver winning two of three weekend events.
