Bray wins Modoc Cup opener, earns $4,000
MODOC, S.C. (May 29) — Polesitter Royce Bray of Hull, Ga., led all 40 laps of the opening event of the four-race Modoc Cup on Friday at Modoc Speedway, holding off a late charge from third-starting Parker Herring of Hartwell, Ga. Outside front-row starter Brent Dixon of Elberton, Ga., was third while David Smith of Inman, S.C., and Brandon Overton of Appling, Ga., rounded out the top five at the 4/10-mile oval. | Slideshow
Notes: Provisional starter started 27th and rallied to finish 13th. ... Chris Steele rallied from the tail of a consolation to finish second, narrowly losing to winner Jimmy Maness. ... The Fastrak-sanctioned Modoc Cup Series continues with $2,000-to-win events on June 12 and June 26 with a $3,000-to-win topless event on July 3. The miniseries points fund will pay $1,000 to the champion, $500 to second, $300 to third, $200 to fourth and $100 to fifth.
