Richards gets Speedweek victory at Winchester
WINCHESTER, Va. (June 8) — Starting outside the front row, Josh Richards of Shinnston, W.Va., raced to a 40-lap Appalachian Mountain Speedweek victory at Winchester Speedway for a $5,000 payday. Richards edged away from polesitter and early leader Jeremy Miller of Gettsyburg, Pa., beginning on the fourth lap, then kept Steve Francis of Ashland, Ky., at bay in the race's late stages. | Slideshow
Francis settled for second after a late battle with sixth-starting Gary Stuhler of Greencastle, Pa., while hometown driver Ronnie DeHaven Jr. was fourth. Miller, the previous night's Speedweek winner at Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway, faded to fifth on a night when the weeklong miniseries drew 47 Super Late Models. The event was slowed by cautions on laps 2 and 33, the latter when Tommy Armel and Jason Covert got together.
