Wells outruns Essarys, triumphs at West Plains
WEST PLAINS, Mo. (June 13) — Eighth-starting Justin Wells of Aurora, Mo., overtook early leader Phil Edmondson of Marionville, Mo., on the 14th lap and led the rest of the way at West Plains Motor Speedway for his 19th career victory on the Race Brothers Show-Me Racin' Series.
Wells, who finished fourth in the 2006 Show-Me 100 at West Plains, one of his favorite tracks, stayed ahead of the rallying Essarys of Leslie (son) and Ken (father) for the $1,000 victory in his Ken Patterson-owned TNT Race Car. Edmondson settled for fourth while Todd Hall of Charleston, Mo., rounded out the top five.
Wells picked up three position before a lap-eight caution for Larry Campbell's flat tire, then went from fifth to second on the restart, putting him in position to catch Edmondson.
A red flag for Mark Penticuff's turn-three spin halted the action, and Leslie Essary and Ken Essary were up to second and third with 12 laps remaining. But Wells held on for his first-ever victory at West Plains.
The series returns to action June 20 at West Siloam (Ark.) Speedway.
