Wall's spin helps Ashley to victory at Jackson
BYRAM, Miss. (June 20) — Taking advantage of Chris Wall's problems with lapped traffic, outside front-row starter David Ashley of Zachary, La., won at Jackson Motor Speedway for his first Mississippi State Championship Challenge victory since 2007.
The two-time and reigning MSCC champion earned $2,500 for the 50-lap victory, the eighth of his career and first since Aug. 31, 2007, at Simpson County Motorsports Park in D'Lo, Miss.
Series points leader Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., posted his second consecutive runner-up finish while Bub McCool of Vicksburg, Miss., finished third. Scott Slay of Clinton, Miss., and Cliff Williams of Star, Miss., rounded out the top five.
Wall, of Holden, La., set fast time and won the dash to start on the pole, but he spun trying to overtake a lapped car and had to restart on the tail. Wall ended up sixth, the last driver on the lead lap at the quarter-mile oval.
