Frye wins MSRA weekend opener at 67

(July 10) — Outside front-row starter Bill Frye of Greenbrier, Ark., earned $2,000 Friday with a flag-to-flag, 25-lap victory on the O'Reilly Mid-South Racing Association at 67 Speedway. In winning his second career series event, Frye set a torrid pace, lapping competitors by the sixth lap and eventually crossing the finish line 2.5 seconds ahead of polesitter and runner-up Jon Mitchell of nearby Nash, Texas. | Slideshow
Seventh-starting Ray Moore of Haughton, La., was less than a car length back in third in the opener of the weekend doubleheader at the track while MSRA points leader Billy Moyer Jr. of Batesville, Ark., and Kyle Beard of Trumann, Ark., rounded out the top five.
Frye's only scare came on the ninth lap when Mitchell slipped past, only to have the lead changed negated by a caution for Shane Diamant's spin.

The feature lasted 26 minutes with the checkered flag waving at 11:13 p.m. ... The track drew 73 race cars overall in five divisions. ... In the MSRA feature, Shane Diamant of Maumelle, Ark., was the hard charger with his 17th-to-ninth run. .... Leading series rookie Gary Christian of Broken Bow, Okla., finished seventh after starting in the sixth row. ... In a case of cautions begetting other cautions, the race was slowed by three straight yellows on the ninth lap. After Diamant's spin, Dewaine Hottinger of Russellville, Ark., made contact with Ray Moore to trigger a chain-reaction accident that also involved Wesley Chanler and Wayne Skinner. Another chain-reaction collision involving five cars hampered the next attempted start with Hottinger and Christian among those involved. ... Twelve of 21 starters were running at the finish. ... Wesley Crutchfield of Prattsville, Ark., departed with a faulty fuel pump. ... Engine problems kept Charlie Cole out of action. ... Billy Moyer Jr. extended his points lead to 27 from 24 points. ...
