Vochaska earns $4,500 for first ALMS victory
HARTFORD, Mich. (July 31) — Inheriting the lead when J.R. Hotovy departed with engine problems, Alan Vochaska of South Haven, Mich., led the final seven laps of the Lane Automotive 45 for his first career victory on the Sunoco American Late Model Series.
Vochaska picked up the $4,500 winner's purse and an additional $270 in lap money in one of Hartford Motor Speedway's biggest events of the season.
Polesitter Shawn Toczek of Hebron, Ind., led the first 11 laps before Hotovy, of Covert, Mich., took command on the 12th circuit. Covert led all the way through lap 38 when he dropped out with an 11th-place finish.
Brian Ruhlman of Clarklake, Mich., was second followed by ALMS points leader Jon Henry of Ada, Ohio. Toczek was fourth and Phil Ausra of Dowagiac, Mich., rounded out the top five.
