Jake Knowles grabs SRRS victory at Cleveland
CLEVELAND, Tenn. (Aug. 8) — After slipping back to third, polesitter Jake Knowles of Tyrone, Ga., fought back past race-long leader Derek Ellis of Chatsworth, Ga., in a lap-26 skirmish and led the rest of the way for a $3,000 Southern Regional Racing Series victory.
Ellis and Knowles tangled for the lead to draw a lap-26 caution, and Ellis retired as Knowles took command. Fourth-starting David Payne of Murphy, N.C., settled for the second position he ran in most of the way while Lee Sutton of Taylorsville, Ga., was third. Brandon Kinzer of Allen, Ky., and 10th-starting William Thomas of Phenix City, Ala., rounded out the top five.
Notes: Knowles drives a MasterSbilt Race Car with a Race Engine Design motor and sponsorship from Car Smart Auto Sales, Cleveland Speedway Driving School, VP Racing Fuels and Cruise with the Champions. ...
