Friedman's flat helps Smith to Fairbury victory
FAIRBURY, Ill. (Aug. 15) — Inheriting the lead after front-row starter Daren Friedman's lap-15 flat tire, polesitter Eric Smith of Bloomington, Ill., led the rest of the 40-lap Monster Midwest Tour victory at Fairbury American Legion Speedway. Smith's $2,000 victory moved him into a tie for the series points lead with third-finishing Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., after 10 of 19 events. | Slideshow
Joe Harlan of El Paso finished second while Frank Heckenast Jr. of Orland Park, Ill., was fourth and Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill., rallied from his 17th starting spot to finish fifth. Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., a four-race winner who entered the event leading the series points, was running third with two laps remaining when a flat tire dropped him to 14th.
