Matthees trims Copp's points lead at Brown County
ABERDEEN, S.D. (Aug. 19) — Reigning tour champion Lance Matthees of Winona, Minn., tightened the points chase on the WISSOTA-sanctioned Dart Challenge Series by winning from the fourth position at Brown County Speedway. Matthees earned $3,000 in Wednesday's Brown County Fair Special, his second series victory of the season.
Steve Laursen of Cumberland, Wis., was second followed by Canadian Joel Cryderman of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Jeremy Keller of Bismarck, N.D., was fourth while hometown driver Kent Arment was the first Brown County regular across the line in fifth.
Series points leader Don Copp of Brule, Wis., was eighth and polesitter David McDonald of Huron, S.D., slipped back to a 10th-place finish. With one event remaining on the nine-race series, Copp leads the tour with 418 points over Matthees (412), Laursen (408) and Cryderman (313). The series finale is Sept. 5 at Hibbing (Minn.) Raceway.
