Henry smokes Winston field for third ALMS victory
ROTHBURY, Mich. (Aug. 21) — Outside front-row starter Jon Henry of Ada, Ohio, raced to his third series victory of the season Friday in Sunoco American Late Model Series action at Winston Speedway. The series points leader earned $2,000 for his second straight victory during his first full-time season driving a Late Model. | Slideshow
Former series champions Brian Ruhlman of Clarklake, Mich., and Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich., crossed the finish line second and third as home-state drivers filled four of the top five spots. Rich Neiser of Fruitport and John McCaul of Montague rounded out the top five. Polesitter Curt Spalding of Hartford, Mich., was eighth in the first-ever series event at the 3/8-mile oval in western Michigan.
Notes: Henry's Rocket Chassis is owned by Shane and Jennifer Halcomb and sponsored by Jeg's and the University of Northwestern Ohio. ... The feature event was slowed by three cautions, the first on lap two for Ky Harper and Brandon Thirlby. A Harper-Rick Whipple incident drew a lap-three yellow and debris slowed the action on lap 22. ... The series completes its new-track weekend with the first ALMS event at Merritt (Mich.) Speedway on Saturday night.
