Wells tops Phillips at Monett for first MARS victory
MONETT, Mo. (Sept. 6) — Justin Wells of Aurora, Mo., overtook four-time series champion Terry Phillips of Springfield, Mo., on the 22nd lap and led the rest of the 35-lap O'Reilly MARS DIRTcar Series feature at Monett Speedway for his first-ever MARS victory. | Slideshow
Wells pocketed $3,000 for his victory in the 38th annual 4-State Dirt Track Championship, one of Missouri's longest-running races. Phillips settled for second at the 3/8-mile oval while Jack Sullivan of Greenbrier, Ark., shaking down a 2010 GRT Race Car with Clint Smith's decal scheme, was third. MARS points leader Eric Turner of Springfield was fourth and Brandon McCormick of Lebanon, Mo., rounded out the top five.
The series returns to action with a recently scheduled event at Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, Okla., on Sept. 12.
