Mars gets rolling, earns $7,000 at Tri-City
GRANITE CITY, Ill. (Sept. 18) — Dropping back early from his fourth starting spot, Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., got rolling at Tri-City Speedway and overtook polesitter Randy Korte of Highland, Ill., to capture the Dodge Ram 50. Mars pocketed $7,000 for the unsanctioned event that drew 25 Super Late Models to the 3/8-mile oval near St. Louis, Mo. | Slideshow
"That was a helluva race there," Mars said in victory lane. "Randy checked out for a while. At the beginning, I was just there. I wasn't really able to find a groove and I didn't know where to be. The tires got warmed up and we were able to come back up through there."
Korte settled for second, a half-straightaway behind the winner at the checkered flag. Third-starting Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., was third followed by fourth-starting Rick Eckert of York, Pa., and fifth-starting Matt Miller of Waterville, Ohio. Sixth-starting Wendell Wallace of Batesville, Ark., ran as high as third but ended up seventh.
Mark Voigt, the points leader of Tri-City's weekly Late Model division, finished 12th.
