Ross takes finale at Brighton as Oakes gets title
BRIGHTON, Ontario (Sept. 19) — Chris Ross of Wallaceburg, Ontario, won a lead-swapping duel with John Lobb of Frewsburg, N.Y., over the final 10 laps to capture the Ontario Dirt Late Models season finale at Brighton Speedway.
While Ross and Lobb battled, Greg Oakes of Franklinville, N.Y., caught the lead duo in the closing laps, turning the race at the 45-year-old third-mile oval into a three-car battle heading for the checkers.
Ross earned $2,000 for the victory while Lobb and Oakes got the second and third spots. Kirk Hooker of Chatham, Ontario, was fourth and Jeff Dayman of Welland, Ontario, rounded out the top five finishers. Oakes wrapped up the series championship with his third-place finish.
