Hollingsworth set for pole at Magnolia State 100
COLUMBUS, Miss. (Sept. 27) — Ronny Lee Hollingsworth of Northport, Ala., is set to go from the pole position of Sunday evening's rain-delayed Magnolia State 100 at Columbus Speedway. The unsanctioned event pays $20,009 to the winner.
The event was pushed to Sunday evening after Saturday's heavy morning rains sent water seeping under the frontstretch wall throughout Saturday evening, forcing the postponement.
Action started Sunday afternoon with three consolation races won by James Ward of Lettsworth, La., Josh Putnam of Killen, Ala., and Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss. Other cars transferring to the 26-car main event were Bill Frye of Greenbrier, Ark., Robbie Stuart of Deridder, La., and Tony Knowles of Tyrone, Ga.
After the racing surface was reworked, Tommy Kerr of Maryville, Tenn., won the last-chance race to transfer along with runner-up Mike Boland.
