Phillips inherits $4,400 after Lucas is DQ'd
MILTON, Fla. (Oct. 3) — Fast qualifier Shep Lucas of McKenzie, Ala., led all 44 laps of the Derrick Henley Memorial, but the $4,400 winner's purse of the unsanctioned Crate Late Model event went to hometown driver Jason Phillips because track officials rules that Lucas used illegal tires.
Phillips inherited the victory while Josh Huss was moved up the second spot at the oval on the Florida Panhandle. Stephen Brantley, Bobby Morrison and Ricky Haugen rounded out the top five finishers. Lucas was placed last in the 24-car rundown on night when racing went into the wee hours.
The track was forced to halt racing by local law enforcement at 2 a.m. with two features yet to run. Bomber and stinger divisions were paid according to the feature lineups
