Hubbard edges Hartman in Wisecarver Memorial
CROOKSVILLE, Ohio (Oct. 10) — Austin Hubbard of Seaford, Del., outdueled Bart Hartman of Zanesville, Ohio, at Midway Speedway to win the unsanctioned Dorus Wisecarver Memorial. The 17-year-old Hubbard earned $4,101 honoring the Ohio racer who died two years earlier.
Hartman, who led six of the first 12 laps, settled for second at the 3/8-mile oval in eastern Ohio while Greg Johnson rallied from his 17th starting spot to finish third.
Freddie Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.Va., who led the first three laps, was fourth and Michael Davis rounded out the top five.
Hartman took the lead from Carpenter on the fourth lap, but Hubbard went ahead to lead laps 10-11. Hartman regained the lead on the 12th lap, but Hubbard took over and led the rest of the 40-lap feature that closes Midway's season. The event drew 37 cars.
