Lucas grabs MSCCS victory at Southern Raceway
MILTON, Fla. (May 1) — Polesitter Shep Lucas of McKenzie, Ala., captured his second Mississippi State Championship Series victory of the season Saturday at Southern Raceway. Lucas, who took the series opener at South Mississippi Speedway, pocketed $2,500 for the victory.
Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., rallied from eighth to finish second while Frank Wilson of Harold, Fla., was third. Steve Bryan of Collinsville, Miss., and Anthony Burroughs of Muscle Shoals, Ala., rounded out the top five at the 3/8-mile Gulf Coast oval.
Series points leader David Breazeale of Four Corners, Miss., was 12th and outside front-row starter Jason Phillips was 17th.
Notes: Lucas drives a Trak-Star chassis sponsored by TJ's BP, Chubeck LLC, Lucas Farms and Allstar Performance. ... Next up for MSCCS competitors is a May 14-15 weekend at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park and Jackson Motor Speedway.
