Breazeale leads 50 laps in return to Hattiesburg
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (May 14) — Polesitter David Breazeale of Four Corners, Miss., led all 50 laps for his second Mississippi State Championship Challenge victory of the season on Friday at Hattiesburg Motorsports Park. Breazeale earned $2,000 as the series visited the quarter-mile oval for the first time in six years.
Outside front-row starter Chad Thrash of Meridian, Miss., rebounded from a first-lap spin in turn two to finish second while fifth-starting Keith Miller of Sumrall, Miss., was third. Consolation race winner Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., and Steve Bryan of Collinsville, Miss., rounded out the top five.
Jeremy Broadus of Biloxi, Miss., started third and challenged Breazeale early in the race, but he dropped out on the 15th lap after his car's engine lost a hose.
Notes: Breazeale's No. 54 is owned by Leon Henderson and sponsored by L&D Trucking. ... Breazeale's 17th career MSCCS victory puts him in a tie for second all time with Scott Slay of Clinton, Miss. ... Slay won the previous series visit to Hattiesburg in 2004. ... Michael Blount, Michael Santangelo and Ross Glasgow were all eliminated before the race completed a single lap. ... Scott Ladner's turn-four spin also brought out a yellow. ... Chris Hoomes slid into the turn-three wall to bring out a caution. ... The series head to Jackson (Miss.) Motor Speedway on Saturday night.
