Harrod wins at Penton for first series victory

NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model SeriesPENTON, Ala. (June 18) — Polesitter Larry Harrod of Plains, Ga., led all 40 laps Friday at Penton Raceway for his first career NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series. The Crate Late Model victory paid $2,000 has Harrod beat Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, Ga., to the checkered flag.
William Thomas of Phenix City, Ala., finished third and former series champion Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, Ga., was fourth. Reigning series champ Eric Cooley of Fulton, Miss., rounded out the top five.
Harrod will try Saturday to become the third straight driver to sweep weekend events at Penton and East Alabama Motor Speedway in Phenix City. Thomas and Scott Knowles pulled off sweeps the last two seasons.
