Schlenk joins Oldfield winners, earns $4,600
WAUSEON, Ohio (June 26) — Track champion Rusty Schlenk of Jackson, Mich., added his names to the winners of the prestigious Barney Oldfield Race on Saturday at Oakshade Raceway. Schlenk, who won his fourth race of 2010 at Oakshade, earned $4,600 for the independent UMP-sanctioned event at the 3/8-mile oval in northwestern Ohio. | Slideshow
Dona Marcoullier of Houghton Lake, Mich., rallied from 13th to third after 11 laps, and eventually worked his way into the runner-up spot. But he never got closer than a half-straightaway of the victorious Schlenk, who is leading UMP’s overall weekly points.
Fourth-starting Brian Ruhlman of Clarklake, Mich., was third while Rick Delong of Whitehouse, Ohio, rallied from 14th to finish fourth. Polesitter Casey Noonan of Sylvania, Ohio, who got a little sideways on the first lap and allowed fellow front-row starter Schlenk to take command, ended up fifth.
The race’s only caution appeared on the sixth lap for Hillard Miller’s spin, but Schlenk fought off a challenge on the restart from Ruhlman and set sail.
