Knoxville Raceway boosts Late Model Nationals purse
From track reports
The Knoxville Late Model Nationals will be even more lucrative in 2008. The track has announced a purse increase of more than $40,000 for the fifth version of Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway's biggest Late Model event.
The 2008 race, scheduled for Sept. 25-27, will have a total purse of $260,810, with the winner's purse $40,000 (up from $35,000) and another $35,000 spread throughout purses of the three-day event. Preliminary feature winners will earn $7,000, up from $6,000.
Although the purses are increase, ticket prices will stay the same, said race director Ralph Capatani. "Fan turnout for the 2007 event enabled us to increase the payoff without raising ticket prices," he said.
Brady Smith of Solon Springs, Wis., won the 2007 event for the richest victory of his career.
