Marlar earns $5,000 for Bluegrass 50 victory
BARDSTOWN, Ky. (Aug. 7) — Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., overtook race-long leader Mike Jewell of Scottsburg, Ind., on the 34th lap and led the rest of the 12th annual Bluegrass 50 at Bluegrass Speedway. Marlar, driving a David Wells-owned Rocket Chassis based in Hazard, Ky., earned $5,000 for the unsanctioned victory.
Jewell was in command most of the race, but Marlar slipped by exiting turn two with 16 laps remaining at the half-mile oval. Justin Rattliff of Campbellsville, Ky., dropped Jewell to third with 12 laps remaining while Aaron Hatton of Mount Sterling, Ky., and Eric Wells of Hazard rounded out the top five.
The race's lone caution for the 14-car field appeared on the eighth lap for Cody Mahoney's flat tire.
