Older Marlar tops younger Marlar at Lake Cumberland
BURNSIDE, Ky. (Aug. 21) — Mike Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., taking the lead when Michael Chilton got into the wall and rolled his car exiting turn two on the sixth lap, earned $3,000 Saturday at Lake Cumberland Speedway for his first victory on the fledgling Volunteer Racing Series.
Marlar was chased to the line by younger brother Skylar while fellow Tennessean Tommy Kerr of Maryville finished third. Victor Lee of Danville, Ky., rallied from 19th to finish fourth and Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., rounded out the top five.
Chilton was in control early in the race, but his right-side wheels climbed the outside concrete wall and his car rolled to the left and ended up on its lid. He wasn't injured.
