Brighton victory wraps up Scott's Canadian title
BRIGHTON, Ontario (Aug. 28) — David Scott of Garland, Pa., wrapped up his championship on the Ontario Dirt Late Models circuit Saturday at Brighton Speedway with his third victory of the season on the Canadian tour. The seventh-starting Scott overtook polesitter and hometown driver Charlie Sandercock on the sixth lap and led the rest of the 30-lap feature.
Scott won the title by 10 points over two-time and defending champ Greg Oakes of Franklinville, N.Y., who finished third in the main event.
Scott's teammate Chad Valone of Warren, Pa., advanced eight positions to finish second while Sandercock and Lee Gill of LaFrangeville, N.Y., rounded out the top five.
Scott was in control late in ther ace when the slower car of Rob Perry hooked an infield barrier and looped wildly in front of the leader. Scott avoided contact and didn't have any problems on the final restart.
The most serious accident came on the ningth lap when Jim Jones and Andrew Hennessy tangled on the backstretch, sending Hennessy's car into a rollover wreck. Both drivers were knocked out of the race.
Notes: Scott's car is sponsored by Valone Ford and Hornburg Drilling. ... Scott won four of five series events with his previous victories coming July 24 at Brockville (Ontario) Speedway and Aug. 1 at Humberstone Speedway in Port Colborne, Ontario. ... Andrew Reaume and Phil Potts spun separately for lap-20 cautions.
