Chad Simpson takes Corn Belt finale, title
SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (Sept. 4) — Ending his longest losing streak on the series, Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, wrapped up his Dart Corn Belt Clash championship in style Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway with his tour-leading ninth victory of the season.
Simpson, winless the previous three series races, led the final three laps and earned $2,000 on the Iowa-based tour. | Slideshow
Brad Waits of Zumbrota, Minn., was denied his second straight tour victory while Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa, the younger brother of the winner, was third after dueling up front throughout the 35-lap main event.
Chad Mahder of Eau Claire, Wis., and Adam Hensel of Barron, Wis., rounded out the top five. Jeff Larson of Freeport, Ill., led the first 15 laps but faded from contention to finish 13th. Nick Beyenhof also ran among the leaders early but ended up 21st.
