Mars pockets $5,000 at Cedar Lake's Legendary 100
NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (Sept. 18) — Polesitter Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, Wis., dominated the Late Model portion of the Legendary 100 on Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway for a $5,000 payday.
Hometown driver Pat Doar outdueled Jake Redetzke of Eau Claire, Wis., for the second spot while track champion Chad Mahder of Eau Claire finished fourth. Nick Vanelink of Navarino, Wis., rallied from his 14th starting spot to round out the top five in the NASCAR-sanctioned 40-lapper.
Notes: Drivers ran a four-wide parade lap in missing man formation in memory of former track champion Brent Laursen, who died Sept. 12. ... Engine problems forced Terry Anvelink out before the first green flag. ... Mike Nutzmann stopped in turn two on the fifth lap for the first of two cautions. ... Scott Greer brought out the second yellow on lap eight when he lost his brakes and slammed the turn-three wall; Greer wasn't hurt but two wreckers were required to removed his damaged car. ... Mars lapped all but nine drivers. ... Eighteen of 23 starters were running at the finish.
