Shirley pockets $9,000 at Kankakee
KANKAKEE, Ill. (Oct. 1-2) — Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., overtook polesitter Kevin Weaver of Gibson City, Ill., midway through Friday's 60-lapper at Kankakee County Speedway to capture the tri-sanctioned Triple Crown Clash. Shirley earned $9,000 for the race sanctioned by the Sunoco American Late Model Series, Monster Midwest Series and Northern Allstars Late Model Series. | Slideshow
Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, Ill., was second followed by Weaver, Jason Feger of Bloomington, Ill., and Dennis Erb Jr. of Carpentersville, Ill. The race was a completion of an Aug. 13 rainout. With the victory, Shirley clinched the $5,000 Monster Midwest Series championship.
In Saturday's tri-sanctioned event, Unzicker started outside the front row and raced to a $2,000 victory over Weaver. Dennis Erb Jr. was third followed by Dillan White and Frank Heckenast Jr. Brian Ruhlman of Clarklake, Mich., grabbed his third career ALMS championship, edging Curtis Roberts after they both finished back in the pack.
