Hogge outduels Johnson in Bud Nationals opener
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Oct. 8) — Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas, Calif., overtook Mike Johnson of Lompoc, Calif., late in the 30-lapper at Bakersfield Speedway to win the opening night feature of the 25th annual Budweiser Nationals.
Hogge earned $2,000 for the victory in the West Coast Late Model Shootout event at the third-mile oval in Bakersfield's big weekend of racing. | Slideshow
Trevor Glaser of Tangent, Ore., finished second with hometown driver Robert Sanders in third. Steve Drake of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and Clay Daly of Watsonville, Calif., rounded out the top five. Johnson ended up spinning out of contention when he made contact with the low-running Hogge and ended up 19th.
The Bud Nationals continue on Saturday with a $3,000-to-win event for the West Coast Late Model Shootout competitors.
