Winternationals opener postponed by more rain
GIBSONTON, Fla. (Feb. 7) — The opening round of the 35th annual Dart Winternationals by Magnaflow was postponed Monday as a heavy storm approached East Bay Raceway Park. Rain hit the Tampa area about a half-hour later after teams loaded up their equipment at the third-mile oval.
Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series officials announced the $5,000-to-win event would be made up as a doubleheader either Friday or Saturday; that decision will be made Thursday afternoon, series director Ritchie Lewis said.
Tuesday's $5,000-to-win event will now serve as the opener for the six-race stretch of racing scheduled to conclude with a $12,000-to-win event on Saturday.
Monday's race was the fourth consecutive rainout of a Georgia-Florida Speedweeks. Thursday's Winter Freeze at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga., was postponed until Nov. 2. Friday and Saturday racing at Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, Ga., was postponed until March 11-12.
