Golden Isles calls Jan. 24 event because of rain
From staff reports
BRUNSWICK, Ga. (Jan. 24) — The second leg of the 10-race Super Bowl of Racing IV has been cancelled because of rain moving into the area, track officials said. Racing is scheduled to continue on Friday night in an event that includes a $10,000-to-win event for UMP Super Late Models.
Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tenn., earned $10,000 for his Wednesday night victory in the opening race at Golden Isles as he took the lead from Shane Clanton on the 37th of 50 laps on a pleasant, clear evening with temperatures in the upper 50s. Friday's forecast is cooler with highs in the upper 40s with clear conditions.
The remaining $10,000-to-win events are scheduled for Jan. 25-26 and Jan. 28-Feb. 2 at the 4/10-mile oval in southeastern Georgia. The Super Late Model action is sanctioned by UMP and the O'Reilly Southern All Stars.
