Weather wipes out Saturday's Super Bowl race
From staff reports
BRUNSWICK, Ga. (Jan. 26) — Rain and unstable weather throughout southeast Georgia forced Golden Isles Speedway officials to cancel Saturday night's event for the Super Bowl of Racing IV, according the track's website. It's the second of four scheduled events claimed by weather.
With Sunday already scheduled as an off-night, the Super Bowl of Racing continues with $10,000-to-win Super Late Model events beginning on Monday and running through Saturday, Feb. 2. The races are sanctioned by UMP except for the Jan. 30-Feb. 1 events, which are sanctioned by the O'Reilly Southern All Stars.
The rain also postpones Jimmy Owens' efforts to win his third straight event at the 4/10-mile oval. Owens led the final 16 laps of Wednesday night's event and dominated all 50 laps of Friday night's race. Thursday's events was canceled by the track because of threatening weather.
