Shaver's last-lap woes give Davenport victory
MADISON, N.C. (April 2) — Taking command in the race's final seconds when Steve Shaver had a flat tire, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Ga., swept into the lead on the last lap and earned $5,000 at 311 Motor Speedway for his second straight victory on the first-year Ultimate Super Late Model Series.
The polesitting Shaver set fast time and led most of the way until faltering on the final circuit, giving the fifth-starting Davenport a victory over outside front-row starter Austin Dillon of Welcome, N.C. Casey Roberts of Toccoa., Ga., was third at the half-mile oval while Shaver limped across the line in fourth.
The most series accident in the event came on the 12th lap when Ricky Weeks of Rutherfordton, N.C., got upside down in turns three and four. He wasn't injured.
