Boland captures pole at Rumble on the Gumbo

NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model SeriesGREENVILLE, Miss. (April 8) — Mike Boland of Cuba, Ala., swept Friday's preliminary events for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Rumble on the Gumbo 75 at Greenville Speedway. Boland set fast time when captured the first 12-lap heat race to earn the pole position for Saturday's $5,000-to-win main event.
Boland out-timed the 34-car field with a lap around the quarter-mile gumbo clay oval in 15.104 seconds to earn the pole position for the first of four 12-lap heat races. Boland then led all 12 laps to win the heat race and take the inside front-row starting spot for Saturday's feature.
Series points leader Dan Breuer of Troutman, N.C., won the second heat race to earn the outside front-row starting spot.
VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year candidate Mark Tice of Avon, Miss., won the third heat on his home track and will start the main event from the third starting spot. Chase Washington of Houlka, Miss., took the fourth heat race victory and will start on the outside of row two.
Drivers finishing in the top four spots in the four heat races transferred to the main event. Other entrants will try to earn starting spots through Saturday's consolation races.
